Background
As a national Fleet Street correspondent, I cut my teeth in the hard-nosed daily breaking news arena, covering business, industry, transport, motoring, politics, education, aviation, rail and major disasters, alongside extensive experience as an interviewer, feature writer and columnist.
I hold the record as the longest-serving Motoring Editor of the Daily Mail in its 130-year history, with distinguished predecessors including land speed record legend Sir Malcolm Campbell. I have driven almost every type of vehicle – from 19th-century horseless carriages to James Bond’s Aston Martins to the latest self-driving prototypes.
I am deputy chair of the London Press Club, a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a committee member of the Guild of Motoring Writers, and a Vice President of the Journalists’ Charity. I am also the published author of several books, with more projects underway.
Born and raised in Newcastle upon Tyne, I remain resolutely grounded. I also speak fluent German… as well as Geordie. Now it’s time to shine a light on my other creative skills.
